Alex Nicol steps to center stage with the release of his latest single and accompanying video “And I Wonder.” The Montreal based musician best known for his contributions to Kurvi Tasch and Hoan blessed us all with a solo debut. His enchanting vocals are wrapped up with nostalgia in the video directed by Nada Temerinski and edited by Henry Acteson & Al Amin.
Describing the single, Alex says, “This is a song about my teenage years, which were fraught with anxiety. I went through an eating disorder that lasted quite a while, born out of the fears I had of getting old. I was finally able to break out of it by teaching myself to see the beauty in the passing moment, to give myself up to the winds of fate, and to approach life with appreciation and wonder. But even while I began to open up to the world, I was always aware of a nagging desire to be a rote machine, an amalgam of operations that did not have to think for itself. To this day I see-saw back and forth between a desire to be an emotionless machine and a human being connected to the rich emotional fabric of existence. This inner conflict is narrated in the video, in which a sterile computer system shows signs of life and awareness.”
