Joni Void brings us his Present Day Montage, a lovingly crafted mix of eclectic selections that navigate anxiety, confusion and dread before giving way to a form of clarity, perspective and peace of mind. Originally broadcast on March 3rd for for Les Transmissions du Vide hosting CKUT’s Montréal Sessions, Bitchfork is proud to present this mix here, today, in celebration of the release of Joni Void’s remixes compilation Reel2Reel.
Joni Void says of the mix, “It seems so cliché to say it’s a ‘quarantine’ mix, but that’s when the mix happened, and what it ended up revolving around… It was originally broadcast on March 3rd for my CKUT radio-show, hosting The Montréal Sessions during the month of March, and the episode was on the occasion of Xuan Ye’s album launch event on March 7th at La Lumière. This radio broadcast ended up being the only one not cancelled or happening at home instead of studio, and La Lumière’s event would be the last show I organized/attended before confinement. The first half of the mix was Xuan Ye’s mix, which came with many complex feelings and anxiety about the coronavirus situation as a Chinese person, which she then detailed in a post when her mix was released online.“
